Congratulations to all members of the second TMCS cohort who completed successfully the MSc in Theoretical and Computational Chemistry at the end of their year-1 training, and to the seven students who achieved distinctions in the MSc: Silvia Amabilino, Jake Bowerbank, Joe Lawrence, Robert Shaw, Weng-Hong Sio, Stash Welsh and Xinglong Zhang.

UKTC2016 Poster Prizes

UKTC2016 students presented their research at an evening poster session, with poster prizes kindly provided by the journal Molecular Physics. The Molecular Physics Poster Prize winners were Victoria Oakes (KCL) and Matthew Ryley (Nottingham), pictured together with (L-R) Profs Fred Manby, George Jackson and David Logan.

The two-week National Training School in Theoretical Chemistry, sponsored by EPSRC and supported by the Royal Society of Chemistry, took place in September 2016. The School provides a broad-based introduction to key concepts and techniques which underpin research in theoretical and computational chemistry.

Picnic and sports day

Our students joined those of the Oxford DTC for a picnic and sports day. Much fun was had by all!

Cheltenham Science Festival

Our year-2 cohort took their new ChemGolf game to the Cheltenham Science Festival, as part of the Southampton 'Bringing research to life' roadshow.

Poster prize

Congratulations to year-2 student Domagoj Fijan, who received a prize for his poster at the RSC Theoretical Chemistry Group Conference in Nottingham.

Team working course

Our year-2 cohort joined students at Warwick University for a three-day Team Working in a Research Environment course. The course, organised by Alison Rodger (Warwick) and Syma Khalid (Southampton), covered aspects of teamwork, scientific communication for a broad audience and identifying personal strengths and weaknesses. Our students were joined by the MAS CDT students from Warwick, and the diversity of scientific backgrounds added to the richness of the experience and was appreciated by all.

There was a friendly, collegiate atmosphere throughout as the students embarked on a range of practical and theoretical activities including building a wooden ‘matrix’ (which they achieved in a record time), working together to market a product for children of various age groups.

Open Day

We welcomed prospective TMCS students to our Open Day on Thursday 19th November. Students were introduced to the programme, our research, and our dedicated TMCS office space and facilities.

New cohort

We welcome our new 2015 cohort to the TMCS CDT.

The TMCS Prize

Congratulations to Jonathan Mannouch and Tim Wiles, who share this year's TMCS Prize for their outstanding performances in the assessed year-1 TMCS training programme!
