Silvia did her undergraduate in Chemistry at the University of Warwick, from which she graduated with a first class degree before joining the second (2015) cohort of TMCS students.  During the first year of Doctoral training, she was a member of The Queen’s College, Oxford.  Silvia feels that the master’s year was particularly useful to improve her level of maths and coding, which has been invaluable during the course of her PhD.

She is currently doing a PhD at the University of Bristol under the supervision of Dr. David Glowacki. The Glowacki group focuses on both method development and applications of computational/theoretical chemistry. Silvia’s project focuses on using machine learning methods to improve molecular simulations. The idea is that methods such as neural networks could generate results with the accuracy of quantum molecular dynamics at the speed of classical molecular dynamics.

In addition, Silvia is a STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Maths) ambassador. Through this scheme, she has participated in multiple outreach events aimed at young audiences to encourage more students to take STEM subjects.
